Case Studies

Daniel - Barbara Priestman Academy, Sunderland

Daniel applied to Sunderland Boys Fun for help with purchasing equipment and clothing needed to complete level 1 Hospitality and Catering which then allowed him to carry on towards level 2.

Barbara Priestman Academy is a National Autistic Society (NAS) accredited provision that educates students with Austistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and complex needs from 11 – 19 years.  The Academy delivers a wide and responsive curriculum that ranges from P levels to GCSEs and equivalents.  The Academy supports students from mainstream and can offer curriculum / behaviour placements.

We hope that the practical support we were able to give Daniel will help him achieve his ambitions in the hospitality industry and we wish him well as he looks for work.

Kate Elizabeth Hilton

Required funding to assist in her studies and training in music and theatre.

Kate applied to the fund in 2015 as she was in a position to achieve a lifetime ambition to attend the prestigious Italia Conti school for performing arts in London. This is a privately funded school and Kate was not eligible for the usual help with fees that college students normally receive.

She had an excellent track record of working in her local community by being involved in youth groups, local drama producations and a local heritage society. Amazingly, one of Kate's friends from Sunderland had been accepted for the same school in 2014 and this shows the depth of creative talent in the city.

The fund was delighted to assist Kate in a small way with funds towards some of her living costs away from home - we look forward to seeing her name in lights in the not too distant future.
