Grant Application Notes

General

The Sunderland Boys Industrial School Fund (SBISF) IS A Registered Charity. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance, to persons between  15 and 25 years (boys and girls) and who are residents of Sunderland, in the following ways: by assisting applicants who are preparing for work by providing them with outfits or by payment of fees, travelling or maintenance expenses or such other ways which will enable them to earn their own living. or - by promoting the education, including social and physical training of applicants.

The charity was originally established in February 1929. Much of its original activity therefore, related to category (a) above i.e. preparing young people for work by assisting apprentices for example with tools and overalls. In more recent years help has been given to individuals under category (b). Payments have been made to individuals and groups of individuals from one organisation. Assistance has taken the form of contribution towards travelling expences or general fund raising for adventure outings (e.g. scout groups), expenditure (including foreign visits) and sporting and cultural activities particularly if there are occasions which are extraordinary e.g. representing the City at events.

Grants are made to young people  under the age of 25 years in the Sunderland area.

Completing the form

1. Name of Applicant

If you are making a multiple application for more than one individual in respect of a club, society or other organisation, please include the name of the person to whom further correspondence should be directed and enclose a list of the names, addresses and dates of birth of the persons for whom a grant is being sought.

2. Qualifying Address

The address of the applicant or if this is a multiple application, this should be the name of the organisation to whom any cheque for financial assistance will be given. Please include postcode of the organisation.

3. Date of Birth

Date of birth of the applicant or if this is a multiple application, it should be the dates of birth of all covered in the application.

4. Event / Course Attending

Details of the event/Course applying for contribution towards i.e. travelling expenses or general fund raising for adventure outings (e.g. scout groups), expenditure (including foreign visits) and sporting and cultural activities particularly if there are occasions which are extraordinary e.g. representing the City at events. Inclusion could be leaflets, publicity materials etc). Full details will enable the Trustees to consider your application more promptly.

5. Organisation Details

Details of the organisation should be given with a contact name if necessary.

6. Amount Applied for:

Please indicate the sum you are requesting, if you are applying for a contribution towards the full overall cost, please indicate the overall cost.

If it is a contribution please indicate how you intend to raise the balance

Applicants MUST sign and date the form (if a multiple application, the form should be signed by the person making the application on behalf of the group.
