Trying to get employment? Needing financial help?
Sunderland Boys Industrial School Fund may be able to assist.

 

The fund will look at any application for financial help, from assistance for tools and equipment, to help in educational trips to further CV completion towards employment.

Althought named 'boys' fund, today the fund accepts applications from both young men and women under 25 and living in Sunderland.

 

History of this fund

 

Sunderland Boys Industrial School Fund

Charities Commission - Registered Number 501036

 

Original name was The Ragged School.

Founded 27th April 1858.

 

Original Home of the Fund was Prospect House, in Prospect Row, in Sunderland, in 1912

 

The body of Trustees comprises of nine members, which include members appointed by Sunderland Borough Council, of whom two who are appointed by the The local Education Authority, the other trustees are present or retired Magistrates.

 

Trustees are appointed for a term of three years.

 

Origins of the Fund - For the benefit of boys or young men who have come before the Sunderland Justices, and found suitable cases for assistance. Although that ( Origin ) no longer applies.

 

Trust scheme was amended on 17th August 1979 to allow grants be made to both Male and Female applicants, who are resident in Sunderland.

 

Charity Aims - For the benefit of persons, male or female who are resident in Sunderland, and are in need of financial assistance, for example the purchase of clothing and / or tools so that the applicant could seek work.

 

The fund has been expanded to look at applications for financial assistance where travel both in the UK and abroad, to broaden the applicants experience which could help lead to an employment situation, this could be educational, or representing the City of Sunderland.
